Stocking!

I've been meaning to post pictures of the ridiculous amount of projects I've started, but I've been to busy starting more projects. I went to a swanky baby store last summer, and noticed some really adorable knit pants that had a monster on the seat of them. I almost bought them, until I noticed the price tag of $90. For one pair. of BABY PANTS. So instead, I went to the yarn store and set out to make a pretty good substitute. I didn't try my hand at the monster face, because I am not that patient, but maybe I'll give it another shot later.

Aaand, as you can see, they are huge. He crawled right out of them a few times yesterday. But, the bonus is that they will last for more than twenty minutes. Which is more than I can say for some of the other knitting projects I've made. He wore the blue sweater I made him once and it was practically a crop top. Yikes.

This is also huge, luckily I was going for that. Two years ago I knit stockings for David and myself, and we went with stocking hats instead of large socks. It may have come out a little bigger than ours did (I haven't dragged out our decorations yet), but as I'd imagine we will be stuffing a lot more in his stocking so that's okay.

Now I just need to finish the baby sweater, hat, blanket, doll, and presents I have planned.

For the chillier summer nights

I bought a book after David's cousin had a baby girl and made her a little green cardigan. I dusted that book off sometime this winter in anticipation of my own roly poly baby and finally finished this.
I figured it would be nice to stick in his diaper bag for days when it is still a little chilly or nights that we go to the park for summer festivals. Then I had to try it on him, because I'd be really sad if I spent that much time on something that was already too small.
'Cause seriously- look at all of this chub. Even though he still fits in the right age/size of clothes, this particular sweater was made from the 6-9 months pattern size. And it is just slightly too big. By the time the weather is actually cool (when he is 6-9 months old) I'll have to make another.

Shhh...don't tell, but I didn't bother putting pants on him. I think Ell liked it that way.

Finished project!

I've been working on this for a while, but I finally finished it! Months ago I ran across a website that had this cute little needlepoint picture, but I could not find the pattern anywhere. I really loved the woman rocking her baby though, so I thought that maybe I could "wing it" and started working on it when I was 7 months pregnant. I got as far as the poem, and then stalled out, having no idea how to recreate this picture. Then things got complicated and I got tired and I stopped working on it.

While David's mom was here with us after Elliott was born she ran across my half finished project and told me she had made the very same picture when David was born and had ran across the pattern not too long ago. She mailed it to me and I've been working on it whenever I could get a chance since Elliott was born. I finally finished it a couple of days ago!

Forced Nesting, part II

At least I can say I finished a project for the baby. I finished the sweater Wednesday night at a "craft night" one of my friends was having before she sold her sewing machine. It looks just like something Dr. Peanut's trendy daddy might wear.

Forced Nesting

I have been reading websites and blogs of other pregnant woman and have felt pretty guilty about my lack of a nesting instinct so far. Other women are decorating nurseries and making sweet things for baby and ripping out kitchen cabinets and I am compelled to do little more than nap and occasionally bake myself large batches of brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Saturday I forced myself to at least do a little baby-related crafting.

This is a knock-off "Moby Wrap", which is essentially a 5 yard long piece of knit fabric that you can strategically wrap around you to hold the baby so that you can do other things around the house, hands free. I tried it out at work today and although it doesn't really work with my 7 months pregnant belly, one of the other moms and one of the aides used it to tote around one of the lighter babies and it worked fine.


These are actually the front and back of a baby sweater I started two Christmases ago but promptly forgot about. I have one sleeve left to knit and then I have to put it all together, but it looks really cozy and should stretch to fit the baby once it starts cooling off again in the fall (unless he's ginormous, in which case I will have to give it to someone with a normal sized baby).

This post is just to prove that I'm not making up my sister's birthday present. So far it's only 3 weeks late. Here is a little sneak peek.
